ARCHIBALD, Bryon
Alexander Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on
Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Ottawa General Hospital at the age of 80. He will
always be remembered by the love of his life and wife of nearly 60 years, Helen,
sisters Sandra Blanchette and Marnie Benson and brother Bruce, along with son
Patrick (Cecile) and daughters Karen (Jim) and Krystal and two loving grandsons
Roben and Leeam, as well as a large extended family and many friends. Born in
Kenora, Ontario on November 4, 1933 to the late Ragnhild and Campbell, Bryon
could usually be found outdoors; on Agimak Lake in Ignace, trapping minnows and
fishing in all seasons. Bryon began work with the Canadian Pacific Railway at
age 13, enlisted in the army at 17, taking a break from the railway to serve our
country in the Korean War from 1953-54. His career with External Affairs allowed
him to travel the world with his family for years living in Cairo, Paris, Peking
and also travelling to Vietnam for a peacekeeping mission. He cherished his
years at Cognos and all the wonderful friends he met along the way. His
compassion was evident during his time as a foster parent with the Children's
Aid Society along with his wife Helen, providing a loving temporary home to
children in need. Bryon enjoyed spending time at the Legion Branch 593 in Bells
Corners along with his fellow Korean War Veterans and proudly represented them
at numerous events including the launch of 2013 Veterans Week at the Senate. His
dog, Kali, will miss his companionship and late-night walks. A Private Service
for family will take place in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, donations to
the Canadian Diabetes Association or The Ottawa Hospital Foundation would be
greatly appreciated.
